Under the reforms unveiled today,family doctors will also be alerted to children who are in settings such as a foster care or a children’s home. The government said this will help GPs ensure no young person falls through the cracks.

      >A three-year pilot scheme will aim to boost access to mental health support. And ministers will trial a new programme of paid internship for care leavers in the NHS and a guaranteed interview scheme for roles in the health service.

      Good stuff, more of this please.

    2. Sounds like a brilliant idea, won’t take long for the Daily Mail to brand care leavers as scroungers though.

      It truly takes a village to raise a child. I don’t know many people who were raised in care but this feels like the minimum they should get.

    4. Excellent policy. The cost of dental care is ridiculous. By any measure care leavers are some of the most vulnerable people in society and we should try and break cycles of generational trauma and poverty.

      This is fantastic news. Care leavers are some of our most vulnerable citizens

    6. Good! Until 25, most parents can keep their kids on any workplace health plans, insurance for holidays and vehicles, so giving care leavers an approximation of that care is much fairer.
