The ‘Not Suitable Work’ parliament lmao
Yeah…..gun reforms are ok, but I’m not sure this passes the sniff test. Being investigated is different to being guilty, even tangentially. What if you have a family member who joined Isis because they are a moron? You are punished even if you, and the rest of the family, disown, disavow and have nothing to do with this person? Guilt by association is one of those slippery slopes.
Protest laws are also meh. Should be free to protest no matter when, so long as its not inciting or encouraging violence, faces uncovered and identifiable, you dont cause safety concerns by being cunts. We aren’t French, and for the most part violent protests aren’t needed here. Yet, dont know the future holds.
Once again, the fear and hysteria knee-jerk wins over calm rational discussion and consultation.
Wait, you can do that? You can actually change gun laws?
*“The Greens MPs described the protest reforms in the Minns government’s bill as „an assault on democratic freedoms“ and ultimately abstained from the final vote.“*
So it was all bundled together, and not considered as separate issues, like the bullshit ‚rider‘ law changes that get pushed through on parliamentary bills that have nothing to do with the issue?
Fuck off. I was going to complain about the Greens being spineless, but I still can’t tell for sure how entangled things are from the linked article. They (The Greens etc.) would be damned if they didn’t vote for better gun control legislation after recent events.
Nearly every ‚temporary‘ increased policing power regarding protests over recent years (probably since the 2000 Olympics or even before) have ended up becoming permanent with fuck all oversight or public understanding.
At least the article links to [some people who realise how bullshit this is](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-12-23/nsw-proposed-protest-laws-challenge-parliament/106172910).
I don’t agree with limiting protests, but at least they’re attempting to do something about gun violence… unlike this fd up country. 😔
And that is how you solve a housing crisis.
What a bizarre set of bills to tie together in response to what happened. A ban on guns if you’ve ever been *investigated* for a terrorism-related charge? That just seems discriminatory, you can be accused of a crime and investigated, and even if they find the accusations are totally without merit, you still have a privilege revoked? Not saying this as some gun nut either, I would just get as close to banning them outright as possible.
And then the ability to suspend the ability to protest for *3 months* after a terror attack? That seems absolutely insane to me, especially given how these attacks are almost always used to usher in legislation like this. Now you aren’t even allowed to protest against it? What is even the intended purpose of this law if the attack has already happened??
How does limiting protests help prevent further violence. Purely an antidemocratic move.
The gun laws seem fine tho
The protest thing seems like a very “oh by the way” addition. Did I miss something about the shooting being connected to protests or is this something they’re doing for fun? I don’t think it’s likely that people will mass protest the gun portion of the law so what are they worried about?

Cool.
Now bring the hammer down on antisemitism.
Policies that are enacted this quickly always backfire
