We are now being asked by another leader to buy all of our energy from him, and we have no interest in doing that. We are not interested in being beholden to one energy supplier. We view Canada as a reliable supplier. We view Canada as a like-minded country. We view Canada as a responsible producer of energy. We want to buy from you.”

Then they need to start upgrading our energy infrastructure. Not only more nuclear plants to take advantage of our own uranium supply, but more high voltage lines cross country and interconnected between provinces. We also need to push back and not allow data centers in our country. Let america have them, we can live with the 0.01ms latency of the distance. No biggy.
Not with this government.
Good luck building enough of those within our lifetime while going through plethora of regulations, permits, bribing stakeholders in every nooks and crannies, and endless arguing just to start digging something. No wonder why it takes longer and longer to build anything as time passes by.
Not just energy, but overall natural resources.
Canada has natural resources comparable to US, while our population is about 10% of US population. That is the reason why Trump keeps talking about 51st state.
We are such a dysfunctional country nothing will ever get built. We can’t agree on anything and it’s my way or nothing attitude between so many people and groups.
Plus suspected corruption in all levels of government these days.
Yeah Canada is a family who can’t even agree how to grow a garden to survive. So we all starve to death. LOL.
Because we don’t have anything else left. We lost manufacturing, we lost high-tech, but there are still 3 things that we can export: Energy, Pornography, Citizenship
(we are kind of shy about pornography, but mindgeek is probably the most popular canadian internet business)
The resource extraction for many of these projects will never make it pass the planning phase let alone shovels in the ground. By the time we harvest most of the natural resources and raw minerals it’ll be too late, the world would’ve shifted away
Only if we can get it to tidewater in sufficient quantities. And let’s not forget that one of the reasons Trump is clearly provoking Venezuela is because all the refineries tooled to work with Canadian oil would work just as well with Venezuelan heavy crude. If he takes control of their oil supply a huge amount of our leverage — not to mention GDP — could easily vanish overnight. Only thing that doesn’t bring us to our knees shortly thereafter is the ability to sell it all on world markets instead.
We’ve been betting on this one thing for 70 years so why not keep doing the same!
