Living on the west coast as a gay man, 0-9% is absolutely wrong. Unless gay guys are 500% more likely to be circumcised..
Edit: Sample size ~600, p<0.01 since I’ve been accused of anecdotal data!

Why is it done? I was once told it was for hygiene but that was by someone that wiped their ass with a bit of dry paper….

How effective is circumcision regarding hygiene in hot and dusty countries really?

I’m truly grateful to be from the green area on the map. Male genital mutilation is abhorrent.
In a just and sane world, the entire map would be green.

I’m a bit shocked by South Africa’s rates, i was expecting a lot more orange and red. Hopefully that’s a sign the tradition is dying here along with „traditional“ schools

As a kid I got bothered by strong phimosis, hence circumcision was necessary with me. I am okay with being cut by now but still I am missing my foreskin.

For men who are circumcised, do you ever wish you weren’t? Personally, it never crosses my mind until I see a comment section like this 🫣

I would kinda like to know why especially US-americans choose to circumcise their boy’s genitals and how the option is presented, given the high cost for any medical intervention in the US.
I know that it was propagandised by Kellogg and his anti-masturbation gang, but this was then and now is now and we don’t perpetuate water therapy and stuff like that anymore. Many customs have changed in the last century, or even in the last 20 years and yet this (in most cases) unnecessary plastic surgery keeps persisting in the US and, as it seems, the wider anglosphere , which is remarkable, though not necessarily in a good way.

Michigan and ohio topping the list and the region west and south west to great lakes…can anyone explain to a non american…?

It was just the done thing when and where I was born.
Then I moved to Australia. When my wife was pregnant, I asked the doctor about it and he looked at me like I was crazy, asked if I was Jewish (no) and then said “why would anyone do that?” It’s not really done today in Australia. This map might be showing how many are circumcised now but it’s certainly not the norm to do it to babies today in Australia

Based on my extensive field work on this in eastern australia, I can confirm:
-it’s unlikely for asians to be circumcised (except philippinos)
-the high local estimation is based on older australians
-gen y are maybe 20% circumcised and gen z about 5%.
-i have no data on gen x or boomers but assume they account for the high overall estimation
I will continue to conduct further studies to deepen my understanding of the gen y and z sample groups
