Ich verfolge seit 2018, wie viel mein Mann und ich für Reisen ausgeben. Ich habe nur berücksichtigt "groß" Reisen, die hier nicht berücksichtigt werden, sind lokale Reisen, Reisen mit einem bestimmten Zweck (z. B. Reisen zu einer Hochzeit), Reisen zu Besuchen und Aufenthalten bei der Familie, Reisen, die nicht miteinander verbunden sind, und Geschäftsreisen.
- Alle Zahlen sind in CAD angegeben und spiegeln die Nettokosten nach Anrechnung etwaiger Prämien/Punkte wider
- Da es sich um Reisen handelt, die mein Mann und ich gemeinsam unternehmen, gelten die Kosten für zwei Personen
- Ich habe alle Einkäufe, die wir auf jeder Reise getätigt haben, von der Gesamtzahl und den Zahlen pro Person und Tag ausgeschlossen
- Wir übernachten in einer Mischung aus Airbnbs und Hotels. Normalerweise gönnen wir uns für einen Teil jeder Reise (2-3 Nächte) ein wirklich schönes Hotel.
- Normalerweise fliegen wir in der Economy-Klasse ab YYZ
- Wenn wir ein Auto mieten, sind die Kosten für Benzin und Mautstraßen im Preis inbegriffen "Transport" Kategorie, die "Mietwagen" Kategorie umfasst nur die Kosten für Miete und Versicherung
- "Andere" Dazu gehören Dinge wie eSIMs, Tourismusgebühren und Toilettenartikel

How did you spend so much in Switzerland?? I know Switzerland is expensive but $16k for 14 nights for 2 people seems excessive.
Surprised to see Gros Morne in there. Also surprising that 6 nights in Gros Morne was more expensive than a week in Iceland.

NYC is a vacuum cleaner in your wallet or purse. Still one of the most special places one can go anywhere on earth.
It all makes sense except that week in Iceland. Most expensive place we’ve ever been, but even in a per day basis it seems crazy cheap.
I’m not convinced that points should be excluded.
Points have a real cash value. They may be worth significantly less in cash than in their nominal flight value. But 10,000 amex points can be redeemed as straight cash against your CC statement for $100. That’s your opportunity cost by spending them on „free“ flights.
If I spent 10,000 points on a flight, I’d book that as a $100 cost to me, personally.
It doesn’t make flights feel as „fun“ and „free“. But it’s significantly more honest with costs.

Net costs not including shopping or smaller trips during the year makes these figures wild to me.

So I went to St, Lucia roughly 10 years ago for 7 nights as well. Flights and hotel for 2 adults only costed us around 2K USD.
Looks like a huge chunk of your cost was accommodations. Assuming you stayed at an ultra luxurious resort?

Some of these costs seems so excessive. I was in Argentina in 2019 for 9 days and spent significantly less than you did, one a per person basis. It was so cheap back then

jesus christ, my 2 month hostel trip through 10 european countries was $7k
I just can’t imagine spending 10+ days on a vacation. My wife and I went to Hawaii for 4 days for our honeymoon, and by the end of it, we were dying to come back home lol.
