Was there really no other name they could come up with other than one that reads like „bitch chat“?

Because everyone is dying to say „bitchat me later“

I installed it on day 1. Still haven’t found anyone else to chat with.

So it’s the peer to peer app from the TV series Silicon Valley but without any real range, rendering it largely useless. It may even be mostly useless during a protest scenario where it could be a way to evade network surveillance by authorities.

Why would I want to text someone within Bluetooth range — to bring me toilet paper?

Everyone ITT seems annoyed at this idea while I’m sitting here excited that he resurrected Pictochat.

>While it cannot replace full-featured chat platforms, it serves as a proof of concept.
Bitchat was released in August.
Briar, an open source app that does the same thing, was released in April 2018. Briar also allows people to share the app directly to each other’s phones, so if you find yourselves in a situation where it would be useful as long as one person already has it you’re all set.
Bridgefy was released in October 2014.
We’ve had apps that do this for a long time now. Fuck this guy for trying to claim credit for the idea.

We had this in the mid 2000’s on Nokia Symbian phones.

Seriously, what sets this app apart from the other dozen or so mesh network chats that have popped up throughout the years.

I was on island in Michigan with very poor reception and terrible internet reliability. Between one of the outages I had a couple people in my family install this. It was definitely cool but the poor range of Bluetooth limited its usefulness. Generally messaging only worked when I could basically just walk to the person anyway. Maybe in a small dead zone building with a lot of people it would be perfect.

Which is fitting, considering the amount of unsolicited dick pics women will receive with such a tool

I motion that Jack Dorsey be barred from managing any other company, business, entity, or antichrist ploy.
