President Trump announced last week a $1,776 Christmas bonus for the military he dubbed the „warrior dividend.“
He appeared to suggest during his televised address that the bonus was made possible by tariff revenue.
However, the money is coming from a congressionally approved housing supplement.
The president largely credited tariffs for bringing in money.
These payments, which several members of the military have said on social media have already hit their bank accounts, are being disbursed by the Pentagon from a $2.9 billion military housing supplement that was part of Trump’s „One Big Beautiful Bill Act“ to augment existing housing allowances, according to a senior administration official who requested anonymity with The Associated Press to describe the payments.
Military pay comes from the defense budget, not tariffs. Renaming it doesn’t change how its paid for. Most vets would rather see real policy than flashy terms.
The „bonuses“ came directly from reconciliation funds intended for subsidized housing for service members. They are giving them their own money but with a catch…the „bonus“ is taxable where the housing allowance was not.

Ok so does anyone anywhere have a single goddamn receipt about something the tariff money was actually spent on? Seriously asking, can anyone point to *anything* that the money was spent on?
All he did was reallocate money that was *already in the budget* for housing stipends for service members to cash payments. Best part? The housing stipend is not taxed. These payments are. All he did is to force our service members to pay more in taxes.
