I get the national security angle, but I don’t think US domestic drone makers can realistically fill that gap right now—neither on the supply chain side nor the tech side.

That whole bullet-point list of the reasons foreign drones are no longer consumer devices would apply perfectly to the internet as a whole.

As someone with a DJI consumer drone, what does this mean for me?

    5. > For years, DJI’s future in the US has lived in a kind of regulatory limbo.

      > The company repeatedly said it was willing to undergo independent security audits. Lawmakers and agencies repeatedly raised concerns about data, supply chains, and foreign influence. Yet a definitive audit process that could conclusively clear (or condemn) DJI never truly materialized.

Read: They knew nothing was there and they just wanted to ban them anyway.

    6. The dji drones were using American designed chips. Lol. Congratulations us politicians you fucked over American semiconductor firms. There’s absolutely no reason why they will ever trust or use American designed components in the future.

Whenever the government cites „national security“, it’s safe to assume it’s a fucking lie. Didn’t the Supreme Court rule that cooperations are people anyway? So DJI is innocent until proven guilty, right?

    8. I have a small old dji drone, something as silly as this better not be banned… and if it does, I hope someone ends up hacking it/building an app to unlock full control

don’t worry, fellow Amerikans. we’ll soon have our Lada equivalent of drones. Just as good as Eastern drones!

they will make an AI bubble drone , made in USA , everyone will put a part into it from big tech in a loop.

    11. this is so stupid – DJI makes some of the most innovative camera’s and gimball’s – a good portion of Apple’s F1 movie was shot on DJI. Apple used DJI cameras, think about that. We all know idiots are in the WH, but I had never thought they would actively destroy things that have no clue about.

    12. I, too, read the FCC notice… but I do not see DJI directly called out on the Covered List, just “Uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and UAS critical components produced in a foreign country.” However the covered list links to “PUBLIC LAW 118–159—DEC. 23, 2024”, and on page 438 they mention of DJI that “If the appropriate national security agency does not make a determination as required by paragraph (1) within one year after the enactment of this Act, the Commission shall add all communications equipment and services listed in paragraph (1) to the covered list.” So they did not make a determination. By not auditing them, they are by default added to the covered list.

Not trying to be pedantic… just wondering if FAA Drone Zone will let me renew registration for my handful of products… that were purchased this year in the US to support US businesses… with no good alternative in sight.

    13. They just don’t want people to do what Ukraine does with drones should things get really bad here
