„Offensichtliche Vergeltungsmaßnahme“: Trump lehnt Antrag Colorados auf Katastrophenhilfe bei Bränden und Überschwemmungen ab | Der „Mut, die Stärke und die Bereitschaft, sich gegenseitig zu helfen, sind unübertroffen – Werte, die Präsident Trump vergessen zu haben scheint“, sagte Gouverneur Jared Polis

    1. Some relevant details:

      >Top Democratic officials in Colorado are among those condemning President Donald Trump’s denial of two disaster relief requests from Gov. Jared Polis—his latest action in a state that critics say he is retaliating against for its prosecution of a former county clerk who was involved in election denial efforts in 2020.
      >
      >After the White House denied the requests for Trump to declare major disasters in parts of Colorado that experienced the Lee and Elf fires in August and flooding in October—a move that would unlock Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding to help with recovery efforts—Polis joined other Democratic leaders in calling on Trump to reconsider and accusing him of playing „political games.“
      >
      >“One of the most amazing things to witness as governor has been the resilience of Coloradans following a natural disaster,“ said Polis. „Their courage, strength, and willingness to help one another is unmatched—values that President Trump seems to have forgotten. I call on the president’s better angels, and urge him to reconsider these requests. This is about the Coloradans who need this support, and we won’t stop fighting for them to get what they deserve. Colorado will be appealing this decision.“

      >The governor was joined by Democratic Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper in speaking out against the denial.

      >The Stafford Act authorizes the president to declare a major disaster in order to unlock additional federal funding to respond to floods and other emergencies.
      >
      >Trump has sought to reduce federal funding that goes to states for emergency management—denying at least 12 requests from states between January-October, with Democratic-led states facing many of the denials.
      >
      >He has overtly politicized disaster relief, announcing in August that any state or city that boycotts Israeli products in protest of its attacks on and policies in Palestinian territories would not receive funding they requested.
      >
      >Despite this, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told The Hill on Monday that „there is no politicization to the president’s decisions on disaster relief“—but Polis and other Democrats suggested the flooding and fire relief request denial was part of Trump’s larger efforts to retaliate against the state of Colorado.

      >Last week, the president’s top budget adviser, Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, announced the administration was dismantling the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), a major climate research and meteorological facility in Boulder.

      >“When the people of Western Colorado need assistance the most—as recovery from the Elk and Lee fires continues—President Trump abandons them in a blatant act of retaliation against our state,“ said Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) on Sunday night of Trump’s latest action toward Colorado. „Shameful.“

If there’s one thing that this administration has been stellar at, it’s been petty and disproportionate retaliation for any slight large or small.

Saying he’s forgotten those values implies they once existed in his mind. The truth is that these are values he’s never possessed or even been exposed to. They’re completely foreign to him.

It really has to be emphasized here, Donald Trump wants to hurt Democrats. Not politically, not legally, not economically, he wants Democrats and any dissenters to physically suffer. These people aren’t modern day fascists, they’re something completely different, yet equally as evil.

And Trump’s supporters? They’re cheering this on, and don’t you ever forget that. People you might have once called friends or family, brothers and sisters, parents, coworkers, classmates. These people cheered on a movement that deliberately took action and steps to make you suffer for absolutely zero material benefit, all because they believe you deserve to suffer.

This is the America these people voted in. Don’t ever forget that. The Republican Party is quickly evolving into a movement that actively seeks out ways to hurt YOU! This is a movement built on collective punishment. The people you voted for opposed them, and now YOU will suffer. Do not ever forget that.

With a sexist, racist, fraudster, felon at the helm….this was expected.

    6. Coloradan here. We don’t sell pardons in these parts, and we don’t bend the knee to fascists. 🖕

    7. Ya see, in the request for aide, the state of Colorado failed to say they would name the relief package after Trump if he granted it. The Donald Trump FEMA aide package.

    8. If a US President is only a President for their supporters, how is that not civil war?

He hasn’t forgot them. He never had or understood them, so he grew to hate them.

    10. How short sighted the GOP is for this. How many people live in red state have relatives, friends or colleagues and blue states that are going to hear about this?

This is something that Fox News is not going to be able to cover up.

This is something that right wing propaganda is not gonna be able to cover up.

    11. More like values Dear Leader not only doesn’t share, but is incapable of understanding.

    12. trump only gives money to people willing to cover up the epstein files for him

Yes, this is the kind of president Republicans want. Be sure to remember that when you vote.

He’s never known nor respected such qualities.

If you help others, he thinks you’re a sucker.

What would happen if CO stopped sending its tax positive amounts to the Fed? It’s one of a few states that give money to DC than take it. Say they just kept it for themselves since the Fed won’t give them it back when they need it?

So how does Bobo feel about this? Why do you not hear about how dumb she’s being on a daily basis anymore?

    17. So, a quick question:

There’s a ton of his supporters here on Reddit- why do we never see any of them trying to rationalize his petty and cowardly bullshit here in the comments?

I mean, sure- we all know they’d get ripped to shreds when held up to even a shred of scrutiny, but you’d think since they’re such proud and fearless patriots and always in the right- according to their own mental gymnastics, they’d be here to defend their dear traitor in chief.

So seriously, if they’re not a bunch of cowards, where’s the defense of all of his traitorous anti-America bullshit?
