    1. It’s already pretty bad… but, I don’t doubt congress would find a way to make it worse.

      >any website that Congress decides is “harmful to minors”

places like Reddit where people are still free to discuss politics in ways that make GOP and the oligarchs look bad

Maybe this is when meshnet finally gets more interesting to people

    3. Tech bros are destroying the internet, flooding it with garbage. Congress just wants to abuse what’s left I guess.

Kinda kicking someone in the stomach while they are already down

    4. We truly didn’t know how good we had it in the Usenet days. The internet was so open and free, and as pessimistic as I am I didn’t see how bad it’d eventually become.

Im assuming any website that’s not Israelis owned will be deemed as a threat.

      1984 is here people.

This is nothing more than a FULL ON SURVEILLANCE STATE disguised as child protection.

We should have put Trump In jail. This is an authoritarian takeover of the internet.

      Good job America. Good job.

    7. Things like Roblox arguably hurt kids more than any website, and nothing’s done about it. Why not focus on things that, you know, kids actually use?
It’s kind of funny to think that an administration run by a man who abuses children would do anything for their benefit.

    8. With social media long since being toxic bilge and AI about to make the internet impossible to believe anything on it at all…

Fuck it. Democratize it all and send me back to doing things the old way. I am fully okay with rejecting use of an enshitified experience.

Half of this push is to monetize every click to put millions of pennies in greedy rich people’s pockets. Free internet is about to be pay-to-play for every click

GOP the party of free speech my ass. The porn is harmful to children shit was the cover up for what they really plan to do. And honestly with the whole porn thing I could get it if there wasn’t malicious shit coming right behind the act. GOP trying to censor the whole american version of the internet. smh

So – we’re going back to gated internet communities like Prodigy Online again, aren’t we?

*For instance, the SCREEN Act stands to instate an age verification for any website that Congress decides is “harmful to minors” and the Cooper Davis Act would require any electronic communication service provider to report knowledge of drug-related offenses to the Drug Enforcement Administration, effectively doing away with any service that provides end-to-end encryption.*

First, they ban books. Then figure out that most people read on the internet, not in libraries. So, ban books or anything on the internet they deem harmful to minors (which could be anything). Will they then build the ‚great firewall‘ like China did?

They can only push so far before enough people finally snap. …

    16. what about my VPN connection to work? And all the millions who work for companies that use vpns for working from home or off site for whatever reason? This government can’t think even one step ahead. smh
