I think It’s the same for Greece, most of the population lives around attica region.
South Korea has about 51.8 million people. So half that you get about 25.9 million people.
Which is almost as many people as the entire population of North Korea which has a total of around 26.6 million people.
When threatened by an aggressive neighbour, the best tactics is to gather everyone in a small area close to the border. Makes the bombing easier.

South Korea has a population of c.51.6 million people, and about half of them (so c.25.8 million) live around greater Seoul.
North Korea has a population of about 25.9 million people.
To make it look crazier, Seoul is extremely close to DMZ and north Korea, literally within the range of DPRK artillary range. Not the missiles, nor the rockets, just cannons.

Boy that circle is about 1 cm round… South Koreans must be small.

From a Western perspective, South Korea is smaller than England, Greece and about the size of Indiana or Kentucky.
In a country of that size, the population within that circle is 25.9 million.
I didn’t know North Jeolla Province was so flat. Why do more than half of the people live in Seoul?
The population density on that spot is so close to Panmunjon. That is why that spot is heavily defended by the south Korean arm forces. Before the American installed a base there but due to agreement they moved back to keep distance from DMZ.
