**🎄 Key points from Connolly’s Christmas message**
* First Christmas message as **President of Ireland** (since taking office in November).
* Acknowledges **challenges facing Ireland and the wider world**, including **conflict, climate change and hardship**.
* Emphasises **hope and shared values** — kindness, tolerance, respect, and humanity.
* Reflects on the **symbolism of light after darkness** (winter solstice) as a metaphor for resilience and better days ahead.
* Holds in mind those **struggling this season**: lonely, ill, without homes, or missing loved ones.
* Sends **gratitude to frontline workers and Defence Forces overseas** spending Christmas away from home.
* Calls for **collective effort on sustainability and peace**, encouraging people to “work together and use our voices.”
* Wishes everyone **a joyful Christmas and peaceful New Year**.
Very nice message.
I know I shouldn’t be like this but I was kinda hoping she’d mention the military industrial complex .
I liked it. Nice message and I appreciated she highlighted Ukraine, Palestine and Sudan.
I’m not one of those people who thinks that only Gaeilgeoirs should be presidents but I’m a big fan of the language and I liked how Irish was woven throughout the speech.
I didn’t vote for President Connolly but I’d be glad if this is the tone of her presidency.
Although as a dog person, I’m unhappy that the Áras is now run by her cats rather than Michael D’s Bernese mountain dogs.
Catherine, what about those of us in Ireland living under drugs gangs and gangster police? Do you plan to do anything about the narco state YOU HAVE SOME SAY OVER or are you going to ponder humanitarianism globally in an abstract sense that benefits nobody except maybe you, to your lefty base.
