It’s amazing that Florida now has 4 million more residents than New York but still falls so short of generating the same GDP.
Really shows you the difference between an economy based on retirees and tourism vs one built on advanced services and industry.

I honestly thought Alaska would be higher.

The senate was a mistake. Wild that Montana gets the same votes as NY

Does anyone know when California’s GDP surpassed New York’s GDP?
Realistic_Special_53 on
It is correlated with population very strongly.

Interested in scaling to see the population vs. % point. (Using 2020 Census data)
New York- 2.554 Million per %
Texas- 3.100 mil per %
California- 2.76 mil per % point
DC- 1.149 mil per % point
New Mexico – 4.235 mil per % point
Florida – 3.713 mil per %
Ohio -3.806 mil per %
WY- 2.885 mil per %

I’d like to see a per capita GDP

meanwhile conservative groups rate states like MS „good for business“ cause they don’t have regulations. In other words, good for chicken processing and poverty and like one lucky rich guy per county. Meanwhile California could buy most countries with their spare change

Share per Capita would be much more instructive. Yes?

Shouldn’t these add up to 100%

Louisiana only 1.1%? I’d guess the oil/gas/chem industry would contribute much more.

I think they are counting the cocaine and human trafficking in the GDP contribution for FL.
Not sure why, but I’m surprised by VT being so low and tied for lowest. I also have no idea what there is to do in Vermont or what commerce or major industries they are even known for. Skiing? Syrup? Tree color changing?

WA is interesting because I guarantee 60%-80% of that GDP comes from just 3 counties
