>Israel’s security cabinet has approved the recognition of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank as the government continues its settlement expansion push.
>Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a settler who proposed the move alongside Defence Minister Israel Katz, said the decision was about blocking the establishment of a Palestinian state.
>Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are considered illegal under international law.
>Saudi Arabia condemned the move. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said Israel’s „relentless“ settlement expansion fuels tensions, restricts Palestinian access to land, and threatens the viability of a sovereign Palestinian state.

Funny how neither this or the guardian article even mentions the word „zone“. Almost like it doesn’t even matter. (spoiler alert: it is Zone C)

The fact this came out just as international efforts are trying to map out a ceasefire and pathway to a Palestinian state feels like a massive strategic middle finger to diplomacy

I’m just glad every party in the region is working responsibly for peace and being extra careful in these difficult times to not take any actions that might be seen as a provocation. Lasting peace is always about compromise and de-escalating tensions.

It’s amazing that Israel will commit state sanctioned terrorism and colonialism, and then cry, bitch, moan, and groan when their victims rightfully retaliate.

so basically Israeli is to Palestinians what European Americans are to native Americans, except that this time it’s in the age of Internet

Actions like this are why Israel is losing favor in the West. It is clear to everyone that they don’t want a diplomatic solution to Palestine. They want to play the game of international politics by using the secret cheat code of unwavering American support, slow walk the annexation of the rest of Palestine, and eventually present the world with fait accompli by making a Palestinian state impossible. Palestinians will be made second-class citizens in a Jewish state, that is if they aren’t killed or expelled.
