Walt Disney Co.’s Avatar: Fire and Ash was the highest-grossing film at the box office this weekend with $88 million worth of movie tickets sold in the US and Canada.
The results trailed a forecast of between $100 million and $120 million from industry tracker Boxoffice Pro. Disney was projecting up to $90 million going into the weekend.
The film took in an additional $257 million in international markets, Disney said in a statement Sunday.
While the opening exceeded the first Avatar film, which brought in $77 million in its 2009 debut domestically, it fell behind the recent sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, which generated $134.1 million in its 2022 opening weekend.
I find that refreshing. And it may speak to the gross over franchising we’re accustomed to post Star Wars prequels / MCU et al.
They are just fantastic theatre experiences and that’s all they need to be.

I still don’t see this movie having a long tail tho, it doesn’t have that rewatch factor. It’s very long and some of it is a copy from way of water. It is however an amazing experience although could do without the high frame rate shit.

I have no idea why these movies are so controversial on this site. Star Wars has had like 3 good movies in the entire 50 year franchise and every Star Wars thread isn’t filled with a thousand comments saying “Who cares it’s mediocre anyways.”

We really liked it. Lots of action from start to finish just like the first 2. The 3 hours go by fast.

this move was a bit of a miss for me, an I do like the franchise. Its largely rehashed from the last one, the final battle being almost identical with the same key actors, like the new zealand harpoon guy and the whales fighting back.
I was really wanting to learn more about the air traders, and see the land they come from but instead we get Navi who are evil because eywa is bad. Just felt very meh.

Does it have intermissions? I heard it was 3 hours long.
