How is Stockholm so early? If the day is 6 hours long in Stockholm and less than that in both Helsinki and Oslo? Both Finland’s and Norway’s capitals are more North than Sweden’s. As is Reykjavik, which should have the shortest day

    2. It’s interesting to see how much of a difference the lower latitudes of Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest make wrt. Berlin. Despite being further east in the same TZ.

    3. It’s not just the sun setting earlier which is a problem the further north you go, but also how low the sun is in the sky in general. It means it can get pretty gloomy quite a while before sunset, especially if the weather is crap.

This time of year in the UK it feels as if the sun spends all of its time either hidden behind a cloud or lurking around the horizon. Most of the time it’s grey and dim enough that I need lights on in my house for most of the day. On the few occasions the sun isn’t actually behind a cloud it will be so low down that it spends a lot of time shining straight in your face and half blinds you.

It’s all a bit depressing. However, the flip side is that the long summer evenings are _glorious_.

    4. Scotland being at the same time as rest of UK is bad here. Ours are as early as 3pm in the more northern parts.

And that’s why DST is a mistake in Poland. Only in Scandinavia sun sets earlier than here.

Wouldn’t you believe it, the sky is actually clear in most of Sweden today – for the first time in probably a month.

    7. Remember this is not only a matter of how far north a city is but also how east or west in its time zone it lies. 🙂

    8. I’m Swedish and this damn darkness fucks with my mental health so much every year

How Madrid ‘hacks’ sunset time: by using CET instead of WET. This is weird!
