    1. “Hillman said the United States is a large, diverse country and it’s important for Canada to have understanding and empathy for everyday Americans”

All I know is that aside from the occasional demonstration in which people vigorously wave signs, it appears to me that the everyday Americans to whom she is referring are content with the political direction of that country.

I feel I do have understanding. A very clear one at that. Empathy? Not so much.

    2. When Trump started his 51st state rhetoric, she kept repeating the narrative that Canadians saw that as a joke, which couldn’t have been farther from the truth. Now she wants Canadians to have empathy for everyday Americans, who couldn’t care less about Canada’s serious grievances with their country. Some of them are even offended that Canada would decline the great „honour“ of becoming their 51st state.

She’s a highly competent person who’s respected across the political spectrum, but much like most bureaucrats and political elites, she’s really out of touch, and it shows, especially since she hasn’t even been living in Canada for nearly a decade.
