    1. I do think there are legitimate uses for AI in video games. Like using it to improve the behavior of computer controlled characters.

I’m not exactly surprised that Kojima of all people would at least experiment with AI, but to say it’ll “cater to “ AI’s got me like 😬

Interactive AI characters in RPGs would be a game changer if programmed well (i.e., interactions limited to certain parameters). Imagine talking to a town guard and them fully-voiced reacting to your specific questions about quests, directions to certain dungeons or prior accomplishments you’ve done in the game.

There’s probably going to be a ton of AI slop but the studios that pull it off will create some truly immersive games.

    4. Anybody who didn’t think Kojima was going to embrace AI hasn’t been paying attention

    5. I read the headline like he wanted to make games for AI…and that was a thinker.

    6. Seems like a lot of people just read the title.

He’s talking about making a game where the target audience will be future AIs.

This is not a surprise to me. If you like auter style artists who push the edge and try new things, expect them to push the edge and try new things — even if you don’t like it yourself.

That actually sounds less like “AI gimmicks” and more like an experiment in adaptive systems.
If AI is used to shape pacing, narrative branches, or player behavior *subtly* rather than replacing creative intent, it could be genuinely interesting.
The real question is whether it enhances agency — or just adds another opaque layer players can’t meaningfully influence.

I think a lot of redditors hear “AI” and immediately panic, but AI enhanced NPCs/ stories would be a game changer. What Bethesda did with radiant quests but if it were actually good.

    10. I hate this fucking timeline. Tuned into my local college radio station last night for the first time in a while and the guy was like “first part of the show will be AI reggae covers” and I slammed the off button.

Well given how many half baked games have been released recently by big game developers it was only a matter of time before they resort to AI slop. What I’d rather see happen is AI used to improve things in games such as NPC interactions & behavior but I would hate to see AI completely take over game development with little to no creative human input.

    12. Yeah, for the worse. My kid is going to grow up playing games from the 90’s – 2000’s so he knows what they are supposed to be like without monetisation or ai slop.

    13. This is honestly the most predictable path for Kojima. You’d think the writer or MGS2 would turn out differently.

    14. can that musk of gaming finally go away or do we have to suffer him for another decade
