    1. Unfortunately they’ll shut down anyways. Just in 5 years instead of 3.

      Reminds me of the “fee for distribution” scare campaign from 2009/2010 when CTV and the CBC threatened mass station closures if they couldn’t charge cable companies for distributing their content.

      Now they’re threatening mass station closures if they can’t keep charging social media platforms for distributing their content.

      Local news, radio, and TV is basically on a skeleton crew at this point. More and more money is given to the industry, but each year things get worse. I think trying to keep the media industry alive in its current form is hopeless, the upper management don’t have a business strategy that works.

      Bell Media does layoffs every year since their media division never made money and still doesn’t, Corus is spiralling into bankruptcy, and Rogers covered up the massive losses in their media division by merging it in with their lucrative sports division.
