      citizenship should not hinge on an agents gut feeling. if the system cant verify a birth certificate without jailing the person, the system is broken.

If they disappear and exile/traffic away a US BORN person, then it’s over and open season on all of us. It’s game over.       a U.S. birth certificate is issued by the state. if ICE thinks its fake, thats either a state error or federal overreach… either way, the citizen shouldn’t be the one punished.

      I don’t see how we can have a sense of justice if carrying a document that proves your legitimacy can be simply disregarded as illegitimate by the person who is incentivized to call it illegitimate.

      Kidnapping and transporting the victim across state lines is a major federal felony. Hopefully in the future all of the agents and personnel involved are identified, tried, and convicted for their part in this major crime.

      birth certificates are simple pieces of paper with no way to verify them on the spot. this could get ugly if they just decide to say they are fake when they want.

      Damn trump. A certified copy of a birth certificate can easily be obtained from the clerk of court in the county of birth, which would prove the validity of the existing paper documentation.

      I want to be surprised this happened, but…I’m only surprised that it took this long.

      The GEO group near me has been detaining a woman for about six months now who is here on a U-visa (something like state’s witness, but for people who are not citizens). They went after her, but failed, in Trump 1.0.

      A court has now ordered ICE to figure this the fuck out, there is a hearing coming up.

      And those are just a couple that make the news — how many others are there being held for days, weeks, or months? And the fuck will Kristi Noem’s excuse be this time?

      This is exactly why due process cannot exist unless it applies to everyone regardless of citizenship. If you have to present proof that you have rights, they can just choose to ignore your proof to deny you those rights.

      Soon the validity of your citizenship won’t matter. All it will take is Trump or one of his lackeys saying you aren’t a citizen and that’s what Will become reality.
