That essentially prices it out of range for most citizens. Sure, you get the money back if you meet the signature threshold, but good luck getting a loan so you can get the signatures.
I am not a fan of direct democracy, as it caters too much to those with excess money or time, but I hate the hypocrisy present here. Marliana claimed this was about giving citizens more say in the province, but now that she sees that Albertans don’t want the crazy things she does, she’s back tracking.

Wow. This has to be the most undemocratic thing our government has done. 5000% increase!?? To make sure applicants are serious??? Like creating a petition and collecting the required signatures volunteering your time and energy to do so isn’t serious enough???
Im sorry but the whole point of a citizen led petition is it’s supposed to be accessible to the average citizen. 25K is just… Blatant gatekeeping. Even if it’s refundable that’s an outrageous amount.
