The first one was a cool idea but it seemed a bit obsessive beyond that.

An artist standing up for his Art.

Not everyone has to like his art but you gotta respect him for creating art that he personally values…especially in these times where artists are being replaced by machines generating slop.

    3. I wish i didnt hear about cameron and avatar for 3 days. Just keep coming up.

    4. Major_R_Soul on

James Cameron doesn’t do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is…James Cameron.

I watched the first one and couldn’t get into the CGI blue characters, CGI makes me feel nothing inside. I didn’t make it through #2, turned it off. I’ll always have True Lies and Abyss to remember him by.

Look, I dont like Avatar. I think it’s corny and lazy. But as his current collaborator Joe Abercrombie wrote: „God smiles on results.“

Honestly, James should just stick to exploring the deep seas. Will always appreciate his good flicks from a hundred years ago, but Avatar is billion dollar slop.

I don’t understand why he doesn’t just post the Woody Harrelson wiping his tears with money gif in response to everything and not spend any more time concerned with it

    9. I say let him do it. I actually really like the Avatar movies. And yes, it’s true, the guy is one of the greatest directors of all time. But come on, he’s clearly living inside his dream project, a world built from ideas he’s been carrying for more than 50 years. How many people do you know who work on something with that much passion?

Looks like the reviews are coming out for the third one saying that its meh. „Looks great, but the story is mediocre“. So all the Avatar movies? These movies arent great, and they make a bunch of money. Idk what he is so worried about. Maybe the „you spent your golden years on boring blue people“ talk is finally getting to him

Between Avatar and trying to make more Terminator movies, he doesn’t seem to making good use of his time.

I find it hilarious how many strangers on the internet have such strong opinions over how James Cameron should be spending his time.

There’s a list of people I could go the rest of my life w/out hearing about and Cameron and Tarantino are climbing the ranks at a fast pace.

    14. Toxicity246 on

I wonder if he’s like Robert Zemeckis and George Lucas where it feels like they became more obsessed with the technology than the finished product.

But Cameron’s movies still make tons of money with better critical reponse than Lucas and Zemeckis.

Dude has indigenous and black problems and it’s clear that’s why he couldn’t even give them any credit for his inspiration. Maybe that’s why this movie has no cultural impact. Its whole underlying plot has been hindered by James himself. Won’t be surprised if in the end the humans win and nothing actually mattered.

Just because im not a fan of the space Pocahontas epic doesnt mean I have any ground to say Cameron should do something else.

      Thats crazy work.

Fuck you James Cameron! Avatar sucks! But side note if you ever seen him reacting to fans he doesn’t give a single fuck about them.

    18. This is what happens when you get brown-nosed for decades.

Valid criticism is taken very personally and the toys get thrown out the pram.

Avatar is fucking claptrap James, deal with it.

    19. Sunday_Schoolz on

Really the only criticism about *Avatar* should be that it **fucking sucks**.

James Cameron wasting half his life on this piece of shit is one of the final doldrums of the artistic movement of Commercialism, as the motherfucker makes so much money that, yeah, why the fuck wouldn’t he burn through 30 years on this piece of shit? If he had kids they’d be set for generations. Fuck, he can rebuild the Titanic, freeze a massive amount of water into an iceberg, and crash the fucking New Titanic into it to create a new Titanic crash site to go to in his deep sea submarine. That’s how much fucking money *Avatar* has made.

…but it sucks. It’s asinine. And it adds nothing to our culture.

    20. AngryCrawdad on

„Why aren’t you making other stuff?“

It’s his personal pet project and it makes infinity money. Dude gets to push the industry while doing something he loves. Something, coincidentally, also makes billions of dollars. Why wouldn’t he keep doing this? 😀

    21. VanillisWilli on

His movies also sell TVs. At least in department stores there’s always Avatar 4K or Santana concerts for some weird reason

    22. ghoulqueene on

idk how anybody can hate the man who paid for a negotiator out of his own pocket to bring Guillermo Del Toro’s kidnapped father home safely

    23. MikeInPajamas on

      I loved the first one.

      The second was meh.

I’ll wait for the third to be free on streaming.

As a fan, I wish he’d applied himself to different stories after the first Avatar, but he clearly loves these stories (not just the money), so he’s got to follow his own passion.

    24. Np Jimmy, I stayed out of the last one and will stay out of the next one too.

    25. Suspicious_Hand_2194 on

Idk why he’s getting so upset if he’s making a boatload of money with this franchise. He knows that he’s a competent director who has won many awards like the Oscars. Plus, the fact that he was able to make this franchise from scratch is mighty impressive, even though the story is meh. He should be proud that his own creation has some of the highest grossing films of all time. He’s gonna go down in history, so again, why is he getting so bothered?

    26. YogurtclosetDull2380 on

Looking at some random YouTube view counts, fake Doomsday trailers have pulled over a million hits in a day while Avatar trailers are struggling to hit 100k views after 4 months.

    27. Definitely his own prerogative, but I’m personally DONE with Avatar. The movies are just so fucking flat and obvious. Baby’s-first-narrative-arc type shit.

    28. UnrealisticPersona on

He’s so mad that nobody likes his blue people. He’s so damn mad that he’s going to keep making more movies with them to punish us all.

    29. He might be surrounded by ‘yes men’. When it comes to these Avatar movies and the huge takings are the suggestion that people love them.

They’re hugely successful in financial terms. That’s all that matters at the end of the day.

Money is a huge thing for Cameron. Considering how wealthy he is. Especially these days. When he sent in the script for Aliens. He worded the title Alien$.

I’ve watched the first Avatar movie and it was ok. The main antagonist was a cool character. I’ve never rewatched it. That was when the movie was relatively new.

Yet I’ve watched Aliens, The Terminator, T2 and True Lies more times than I care to remember.

We all have our opinions. In mine, he hasn’t directed a truly enjoyable movie since True Lies.

Can’t hit a home run every time but there is still time 👍
