The entire global economy is worth about $105 trillion. If tariffs brought in $18 trillion, the US government would’ve collected more than 17% of all the worlds money in one go. That’s not economics… that’s fiction.

Regardless of whether the $18T is factual (it is not, of course), he hasn’t „taken in“ anything. The tariffs have been paid by US importers and citizens through higher prices on imported goods and any good with imported content (virtually all goods). That’s a bit like saying, „we took in $xx from our new consumption tax on the American consumer!“ When did conservatives start bragging about raising taxes? Tariffs are one case where „big lie“ theory doesn’t work. Everyone knows that we are paying the tariffs, not the countries of export origin.
He’s going to provide all the paperwork to verify this in two weeks.

Let’s follow this for a second, let’s assume they have taken in 18 trillion, and we will be slightly aggressive and say there are 350 million Americans. That means the Government should write each of us a check for a little over $50,000. Since he said the tariffs will make us all rich.
I think he was probably saying he siphoned off 18 Trillion dollars for himself and his billionaire buddies at the expense of the average American and is bragging that the hard working people of the United Stares will never see any part of it.
