There’s a 127 mile stretch of Nevada heading into Southern California that’s a state park with literally no anything, not even gas stations. It is the single darkest place I’ve ever gone outside of my own head.

The little blip in the middle of Lake Michigan is Beaver Island, and it’s crazy the amount of stars you can see. Visited and couldn’t believe it.

A map like this always melts my brain. I’m from a small southern town, yet it’s still urban enough to show up red on this map while still pretty damn zoomed out. The places we in turn considered podunk are green or little pockets of blue. That’s a trip. I mean, I know the country west of the Mississippi is significantly less densely populated than the east, but a map like this *really* drives it home.

If you want to see the very clear sky, then Alaska is your best choice. But unfortunately, it’s not shown here.
