Because he’s a good person. And he’s less weird than Eric Adams and less abuse-y than Andrew Cuomo.

Lol, these types of articles don’t help him. Hyping him to absurd levels of expectations before even taking over is a terrible idea.

New York city that is. Just to be sure.

The problem is that he’s more progressive than the legislating bodies. This means he will struggle to implement his policies. Will voters forgive him for what he can’t control?

It’s just Honeymoon vibes. He hasn’t done anything yet.
He speaks well, sounds like he cares and his ideas are well thought out and presented. But he’s taking on one of the hardest and visible jobs in the country, and without much experience.
I hope he does well.

Weird, because I was assured his election would instantly turn New York into an unlivable hellhole.

If he pulls off even part of what he wants to do it will be a huge turning point for the US.

I mean he’s still not the mayor.

Wait a second. I thought everybody was leaving and nyc was instantly turned into some third-world hellscape after winning the mayor race? No?

Wait for dude to take office, everyone will hate him; it’s New York.

Wow you don’t say. He should run for mayor.

I know this concept is weird, but it’s almost like voters want decent people in office.

That’s because he hasn’t started his term yet. Once he begins, he will lose popularity, just like what happened in LA and SF with the progressive district attorneys who did a terrible job. Those DAs were voted out due to poor performance and incompetence.

He’s more representative of the median-Democratic voter than half the party, and that’s wild.

Let’s see how he does. Being popular is not a direct indicator of being good at your job. I am more suspicious of somebody who has that kind of popularity because they use it to get away with things that they shouldn’t be doing. I trust in a politician who doesn’t care about public opinion as much and is there to do the job and do it right and people can just have their opinions. If your poll rating isn’t hovering around the 40-50% range and it has sky rocketed you are running a fuckin psyop.

„Mamdani has been popular with more progressive Democrats but did not perform as strongly among more moderate members of his party in the election last month.“
Ok, but how many people still identify as moderate if it means putting themselves in the company of Cuomo and Adams? Not enough to keep this election from being a blowout.

I only hope that he can live up to the results people are expecting. He’s only the Mayor. Not the legislature or anything else. He’s not promising to bring down prices on day one or settle wars, but he does need some grace to get his programs in operation. Patience!
