People should tell Firefox to get forked (pun intentional).
The question’s really whether management is in Google’s pocket in one way or another; we know that they get a ton of money to make Google the default search and I wouldn’t immediately dismiss a conspiracy theory that Google’s leaning on them there. Still, it could *just* be incompetence.
That said, do note that the article quotes CEO Enzor-DeMeo as saying „AI should always be a choice — something people can easily turn off …“, so some of it comes down to what they actually *do* down the road.
**FUCK.** They were supposed to be one of the only companies that we could *somewhat* trust with regards to treating users ethically. Yeah, yeah, I know, ’never trust corporations‘ but this is like finding out Wikipedia was acquired by Blackrock. I guess, DuckDuckGo here I come? I already use their search engine.

what benefit does this bring to a user? like for real. what actual benefit does „AI“ bring to a browser? i’ve seen these assholes push new ‚features‘ for years that ive never seen anybody actually use. the last good feature i’ve seen a browser bring is tabs. that’s it. everything else has been garbage i’ve never touched and never see anyone else use.
media controls? fuck off. tab groups? no thanks. bookmark syncing? why? password managing? ha not the browser. user profile? fuck off tab splitting? why the fuck do i want the browser to handle that? and now AI. the fuck does AI bring to the web browser experience?
Nobody wants this. I just want to browse the internet in peace at my leisure and have some tabs open.
