    1. if the goal is economic growth you don’t squeeze the group with the least spending power right now

Eight million more voters with a great reason to get their asses out to vote next November.

Every day, Republicans will add more people to the list of those whose lives have been made worse by Republican actions.  In the end, it will be the 1% vs. everyone else because the 1% are the only ones who benefit from Republican autocracy.  Everyone else suffers…

forcing repayment without addressing why tuition exploded or wages stagnated just punishes the poor for surviving

My girlfriend is on the SAVE plan and currently doesn’t work to take care of our daughter.

She’s been on something like that income permanent in this for the last seven years because she’s never been able to get a job on her field.

Are they trying to get her to pay the full amount? It would be something like a 500 or $600 a month there’s no way we can afford that.

    5. I’ve put my ten years in with a non-profit. I’ve been waiting over a year to hear back about my PSLF forgiveness. I wouldn’t expect anything else when you have a wrestling executive running the dept of education.

    6. Didn’t Gen Z men… by and large vote for Trump? I do love how their support wains when it actually impacts them. Welcome to the FO of FAFO.

Trump is like King John in the Disney cartoon version of robinhood. Squeezing taxes and sniveling and sucking his thumb.

That should equal 8 million votes for Democrats next year ( it won’t, but it should).

I’m sure this will be great for an already sinking economy that is only propped up by an AI bubble.

    10. Not again, Trump’s attacks on institutions weaken us all. Defend democracy!

They can force me but doesn’t mean I’m going to do it. They eliminated my repayment program and my payment went to $1400/month. Lol that’s another mortgage payment and def the last thing that will get paid

    12. CharlesIngalls_Pubes on

Seems now like everyone else has to pay for everything, but if Trump is told to pay something, it’s because of a „witch hunt“.

    13. GOP gets people to vote against their own interest. Hopefully someday people will realize that

    14. Why was simply only paying principal never an option? That should have been the plan from the start. Eliminate interest but still pay back principal.

Every time I turn around somebody wants another 50/month from me. I’m already tapped, guys!

    16. Elections have consequences.

MAGA == Higher prices, higher taxes, fewer jobs, bailouts for his buddies in agribusiness.

      Nothing for you except measles.

    17. If 10% more of them has voted against this we’d have a different outcome. Statistically, less than 1/3 of the 8M voted for Kamala. If you voted blue and are affected, I’m sorry. If you voted for Trump and MAGA or we’re too stupid and lazy to vote. Too bad. So sad. Thoughts and prayers.

    18. BigBoyYuyuh on

I hope my old friend is one of them. She voted for this. Don’t talk to her anymore.

    19. If you don’t like this, you need to deal with the GOP. The way to do that is by voting for the democrats on your ballot, not cosplaying revolutionary on Bluesky.

    20. This is why I have paid my loans as aggressively as I could afford. I knew exactly this would happen one day.

    21. At the same time health insurance costs will be exploding for many of them.

Student loans, from what I can see, will be a leading factor in the death of the American middle class. We forced millions of people away from 1-2 year trade schools with the lie ‚you need a degree to be successful‘, buried them in debt and then forced them into lower paying jobs while inflating the economy to a point that only the richest can thrive. I’m 48 years old and still paying monthly for loans I took out in the 90’s. I expect those loans to only go away once I die.

    23. Wife has been trying to buy back 6 months for PSLF. Shes been waiting 7 months with apparently a waitlist of 70k people. They claim its still being processed but im fully convinced no one is processing PSLF forgiveness at this point. SO now we have to pay 1400 a month. First payment was pulled yesterday, 2 weeks before Christmas. Im so thankful I had my PSLF processed during Bidens admin. Feel like we are fucked until/IF we ger a dem president.

    24. “If you take a loan you should pay it back”

“How come ppp loans were forgiven”

“They were designed to be forgiven!”

Ignoring student loans have forgiveness mechanisms as well.

Guess the poor have to pay so the rich can play.

    25. A lot of young people and millennials are about to stop spending a lot of money to stimulate the economy.

    26. RobinSophie on

They know most of these people can’t pay the monthly payments without the SAVE program.

I think they want to force people to refinance/consolidate their loans into PE/banks to try to keep the markets going longer.

    27. Because *of course* they’re reversing that. Can’t have the working class get any proceeds from the wealth of the economy.

    28. I haven’t paid mine since Covid. They have been on “hold”. I had 10200 left. They just kept getting moved over and over but no payment required. Now they are saying I need to pay.

      Go fuck yourself

    29. highsinthe70s on

Trump knows he can do this. He and his base hate educated people, and any pain that Trump can inflict on them will get a thumbs-up from his supporters.

Meanwhile, his beloved farmers get a multi-billion bailout.

    30. blehbleh1122 on

Under the new repayment plan (after they killed save) my payments went from an affordable $90/ month to now about $400 under trump’s plan. I also have to file separate from my wife for taxes, or else they count her income which is ridiculous. I want to play back my loans, but make payments affordable. He wants to get the economy going, what does he think will happen to consume spending when 8 million people can’t afford groceries, let alone recreational spending? Republicans voted in the dumbest possible people.

    31. Remember all the people leading up to the election declaring that they wouldn’t be voting Democrat because they felt Biden’s administration wasn’t doing enough for student loan forgiveness despite literally all the obstruction coming from Republicans? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

    32. chickenboneneck on

They sold my loan, didnt tell me to who, and when I do get emails about it, they say my social security number is invalid. I couldnt pay if I wanted to, not that I can afford the payments theyre gonna want.

Thats after 15 years in a 911 center and getting rejected for PSLF, signing up again, getting approved, then any sign of the approval vanishing.

      Fuck this shit.

    33. pluckyporcupette on

I’m sure voters will love the triple whammy of GOP causing: higher COL, higher health insurance premiums, and paying hundreds per month more on student loans after being in non payment status for several years.

    34. BklynFuhgeddaboudit on

No ACA subsidy. Repay your student loans. Medical debt is back to being reported to creditors. When the recession really hits, good luck getting approved for an apartment with shit credit after losing your house to investors that bought it at auction. Thank your neighbors that voted for this or were too lazy to go vote.

    35. fROM_614_Ohio on

A billionaire defaults on a business loan, it’s called smart financial management. A student loan borrower defaults on payments, it’s called wage garnishment, property repossession, and lack of individual responsibility.
