Ishin clearly not wanting to seriously anger the LDP, so they quietly stopped pushing the issue of corporate donations, even though this used to be one of their core ‚reform‘ promises. Instead, they shifted their focus to reducing the number of Diet seats, which just so happens to benefit Ishin itself.
However, they completely underestimated the opposition parties. They immediately saw through this move and used the unresolved donation issue to block the plan to cut Diet seats.
Now, Ishin is in the worst possible position: they are not in the cabinet, they have not achieved any concrete reforms that benefit them, and the drawn-out donation issue is slowly damaging their image as a reform party.
Ultimately, Ishin took all the political risks of cooperating with the LDP and gained nothing in return. Honestly, in my opinion, this was a complete failure.
Ishin bent the knee and now has nothing to show for it.
I wonder if their base will punish them in the next election. Probably not.
Isn’t that like their one condition of working with the LDP?
Maybe Ishin should just leave the coalition at this point if nothing they want gets passed and they’re being used to secure votes
Wow… talk about a devastating mistake by Ishin
