      I still use my iPod classic regularly. Upgraded with a SD card and a better battery.

      I have a headset that uses a SD card and is water resistant. Loaded it with MP3 files dating back to Napster. I prefer it instead of Bluetooth connected to my phone for exercise.

      I’m all for bringing back personal copies of music files which I can then play any time I want even if I’ve been long isolated from data access, but I’m gonna just copy those files to a phone.

      I did a bit of research on portable music players recently. I was looking for something relatively basic to give to my daughter who is too young for a cell phone. What I found is that the music player market consists of very low end AliExpress trash and expensive shit for grifting audiophiles.

      Unless you actually don’t have a phone, or you have a phone without MP3 player capability, a standalone MP3 player is not needed.

      And AFAIK, current phones are very much capable of playing MP3 to external speakers without interruption when there’s an incoming call.

      I miss my Rio Karma. I loved the cross fader it had when selecting your next track, made playing car dj really fun when you got the perfect song transition.

      I never caught onto streaming services.  I have a pretty big mp3 library.

      TBH I want minidisc back because that was the most aesthetically pleasing music player I had. All the downsides of a discman but with the clunkiness of a walkman. They were perfectly shit and I loved every moment it.

      I still use my old creative zen when I travel. I love the fact that it just plays music and the battery lasts forever

      Google removed their built in media player to try and force me to use YouTube instead (I have a Pixel phone).

      I need to get my iPod Touch fixed. There’re no good free players.

      Hell no. Also music streaming is significantly cheaper then purchasing music while also having every single song available.

      I swapped the HDD for 900GB of SSD in my 7th ipod classic. 33,000 songs with 2/3rds of it being lossless. It’s wonderful.

      For older people, this is the way. It is hard to navigate a phone, find the app, see that it needs an update, can’t find the icon, etc. An MP3 player, just hit play. Makes a good gift as well. Load it up with their favorite songs and they can listen as much as they like. No subscriptions, no songs suddenly disappearing because of streaming rights, etc.

      I’d still be using my Sandisk Clip player if didn’t decide to slowly corrupt itself.

      I hate to stan for a trillion dollar company but I’m pretty happy with Apple Music. It catches on to what I’d like to listen to based off a single song. I also dig well mixed Dolby tracks. Clean interface. Spotify feels like it’s trying to sell me something.

      This is coming from a guy with a 140TB Unraid server with Plex filled up with enough pirated tv and movies to last me through the imminent apocalypse. I also still have my collection of FLACS for my favorite albums that can be steamed or downloaded from Plex to my phone or receiver, but Apple’s quality is just as good to my ears.

      Putting aside convenience and functionality though, I totally get wanting an offline device to just disconnect for a while and really focus on the music.

      CDs are honestly better value than streaming now. You can buy CDs for $1 and own it for life.

      Recently bought a travel case for CDs in the car. No more dealing with Bluetooth draining my phone battery either.

      I went back to a Nokia 2780 flip phone.  It is a great MP3 player.
