I think the best thing Canada can do is be a bit quiet with USA, while working with every other country in The Americas. We need to not be seen as the Belarus (or the Marty Janetty for you wrestling fans) in the US/Canada relationship.
We need to be doing our own thing and continue to forge free trade and improved opportunities between us and… everyone else. Mercosur, Colombia, Mexico, central & island nations, Chile, Peru etc. We’ve actually been doing a good job of increasing talks with Mercosur & Colombia, but we can keep pushing.

The article doesn’t answer the question, so I will, NO, Canada cannot save North America. We can only look after ourselves and work with Mexico to try to mitigate the damage the American electorate has decided to inflict on itself and others.
