It was disturbing how often law enforcement deferred to the AI. Saying things like „it must be right“ if it flagged him. Truly reminded me of something like Minority Report where actual investigation is abandoned and dismissed because it’s assumed the technology is infallible. The dude had about a dozen different forms of ID on him which apparently didn’t matter. It was, again, assumed he had a „hook up“ at the DMV to make fake credentials including a fake CDL.
It was more reasonable to the officer that they had just arrested a John Wick-style underground criminal mastermind using his fraudulent deep identity to avoid being trespassed so he could play craps at a casino, than to consider maybe two people can look similar.

This is the new dystopia that Flock and Plantir want for us. 100% surveillance. The CEO of flock has an Orwellian sales pitch where he talks about “stopping crime before it even starts”. Basically saying the quiet part out loud that their Utopian future is one where big brother is watching at all times. Arrests for “premeditated crime” Fucking creeps. We need strong leaders that will actually regulate this madness. Not give them keys to the kingdom because it will keep their wretched pedophilia out of the news.
What’s more likely? That a random person has „a connection inside the DMV to fabricate documents“ or that they’re who their ID says they are?

There is no discrepancy. A system identified someone as a completely different person as the paperwork the person provided. A state issued ID and other documents all showing the same name is somehow not proof of who you are now?
The guy was trespassed for sleeping on the grounds. You really think someone would go to another state, get an ID under a fake name, get insurance and other stuff under all that and come back just to sleep on the premises again?!?
This cop used zero discretion and I can find no evidence of good judgment. He told others he believed the innocent man he arrested.

Its absolutely wild that you can apparently be detained an arrested for unobstructive tresspass. Even if he was the correct guy it should be a matter of ‚please leave‘, not a case of ‚you gotta stay here so we can have you arrested‘.

This information needs to be published in detail and distributed to the public in simple language so that everyone, regardless of their technological knowledge, can understand it and know that it can affect them too.
AI is not the ultimate solution; it’s just another tool. Don’t accept proposals from CEOs who only want to inflate their stock price.
Fuck the police and fuck AI. I hope people see these errors like this and like the students getting flagged for weapons through AI detection and abandon it. It will cost more money in lawsuits over time. Business is about making money. AI is cutting a corner to make 2 more corners.

I’m sure people do generate a bunch of false I.D/documents to commit fraud, but in the context of what he got called to investigate…

Man, the police did everything to ID the man, and despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, they side with the AI because “their software is pretty cool”.
Remember in the movie Brazil (1985, good year for it) the main character works for the Ministry of Information, and his boss misreads the name of a man who was supposed to be tortured/executed for crimes, therefore accidentally torturing/executing the wrong man?
Then they break into his house and give his wife 200 dollars and an NDA.

The thing that bothers me the most about this is that the policy department will likely be able to avoid any liability by blaming the AI.
