Then support Belgium and stop trying to dump responsibility of the whole EU onto one small country.

Can the EU work silently please? Who benefits from all this fear mongering on important issues?? Now, if funds are not used (they probably won’t) the EU will look spineless.

Then maybe show some will to come up with a backup plan that actually has a chance of succeeding, instead of constantly barking up the wrong tree?
We’ve known that the huge funding gap is a significant issue for almost a year now. It’s not a novel surprise.

The coalition of the willing should be willing to sell raise money themselves to fund the aid. Through taxes or war bonds etc. All of this back and forth over Russia’s assets because they don’t want to use their own money to do it.

So first, Russia’s pressure amounts to “spring breeze cooling the warming sun in Ukraine” and the American pressure is miss directed, consider the source, old fat orange monkey sitting in new marble bathroom, grunting. EU will be perfect, don’t let tiny pressure stop you from doing what’s right!!

It’s crazy to see how many people and politicians in Europe still want to cling to the old and long-dead world order and talking about “international law” as if it still matter today.
The major powers have never been interested in international law, and the rest of the world doesn’t care anymore either. Only in Europe people are afraid of not being well-behaved enough and breaking rules that no one else in the world follows.
We would rather damage ourselves and drain our own tax revenues than dare to make Russia bleed for its actions and misguided imperialism. If Europe, as it always claims, wants to play among the major powers, it must also act like one. But perhaps we are simply too afraid to show courage and take risks sometimes.
Edit:
And the fact that the US and Russia are working hand in hand here to apply massive pressure on individual EU states to oppose the use of russian assets should perhaps give some in the EU pause for a thought as to whether failure in this matter would in fact be a victory for these two regimes over Europe.

The asset seizure plan is doomed to fail because no country will want to implode their capital market while the EU refuses to provide any financial backstop.

The more time passes, the more I wonder how Merz doesn’t realize that his statements, his attitudes and his political choices are making the AfD increasingly popular.

They know Belgium will never let them (and rightfully so).
The only goal here is to make it look like the EU is doing something and to have someone to blame later.

Belgium’s contribution to Ukraine is compared to most other EU countries rather limited and now they try to safeguard Russian assets 😱

Why do we so desperately need the assets plan when we are talking about less than 1% if the EU’s GDP?
If it’s so important we can all issue debt and fund Ukraine. If it’s not important then why bother to begin with ?
