Poilievre has painted himself into a pretty tight corner with „the Liberals are using our ideas, and it’s killing Canada!“

I’m sure this will resonate with voters just as much as „lost Liberal decade“….or „bring it home“ or „for a change“…

Conservatives painted themselves as the most Conservative Party and without any real new ideas. Naturally the liberals move right, stay left on some issues, and squeeze the conservatives who have now no room to move except for “more conservative “. However it’s Canada, if they go more conservative, they’ll turn off a huge number of people.
So instead of changing, coming up with something new, he complains

Well, conservatives did say they would prefer a more centre/moderate form of conservatism. Problem is, it’s coming from the Liberals, so the cognitive strain must be giving them headaches right now.

He really is just a symptom of the partisan politics that impacts so much of the world. Absolutely cannot compromise on anything, even if it’s something that he or his caucus members would actually support, he’ll never admit it,
Get him outta there. If we ever want a semblance of a bipartisan parliament and parties working together, it won’t be with PP there

Poilievre needs to accept the fact that his coalition was built on common interests in fixing crime, inflation, stagnant wages, housing, immigration, and Trudeau fatigue. It’s a coalition, to the point that it was pulling support from both long time Liberal and NDP supporters. A coalition does not mean everyone is as dogmatic with conservative views as you are.
You can’t go around calling people a fake conservative or use “Liberal” as an insult. Because when you do that, you start policing the views of your own membership, and alienating the moderates in his party, which is exactly what is happening. They’re moderate conservatives with overlapping views with the Liberals, that doesn’t make them full on Liberals. Poilievre’s over policing is what is losing him support.

PP’s interview with CBC comes across as a slow moving train wreck – going mile a minute – with zero accountability taken or ability to self reflect!

Well considering Carney’s Liberals are the ones actually achieving conservative policy implementation, it seems to me that Pierre’s party are the actual “counterfeit conservatives”.
Honestly at this point this is just getting sad. I’ve always kinda wondered why some politicians seem so quick to resign when they see the writing on the wall (eg. both Trudeaus), but Poilievre’s leadership has been exhibit A of why that is a good idea sometimes. Wild to see the lengths to which some people will humiliate themselves just for the chance at power.

Canadians don’t care about this petty name calling. If it’s a policy that’s good for Canada, then we don’t care who came up with it. We just want good government. Pollievre doesn’t seem to understand that. If a policy is good, the only thing that matters is that the government implement it.

Does PP not grasp that the Liberal party here in Canada is out Center party? I know the NDP has had lots of struggles lately but they are the noticeably left of center party. So the center Liberals will do some stuff like old school conservatives and some things like the NDP. They will also do lots of things that neither side likes. PP needs to go back to HS social studies and learn some things.

Yes, the Liberals are absolutely capable of adopting any of the genuinely good or necessary economic stances from right of centre. All while offering Canadians stable semi-progressive social policy.
Does anyone truly believe PP would have been a better leader? Carney is a better leader in virtually every aspect. Education, leadership, economics, foreign policy, communication.
Let me put it another way, of the demographic of voters who are sober, well-adjusted and rational, who truly want the best for Canada… how is the Conservative party a viable option? Especially when you know they’re bringing a huge contingent of kook MPs and backroom bureaucrats with them… and will always have significant pressure put on them from a pretty wide kook base of voters who are maple MAGAs, racists, bigots, and convoy supporters.

Yes Carney’s Liberals are a milder version of the CPC. That’s why most of us voted for them. We want mild mannered conservatives that focus on the economy, not belligerent fools who focus on identity politics.

Polievre is taking the CPC back to the days of the Reform party: a regional Alberta-based party based on regional grievances.

PP got exactly what he wanted— Liberal party policies that are more aligned with the Conservatives. But now he realizes that makes him unelectable. And once another floor crosser presents themselves and gives Carney a majority, there’s no way PP can stay in opposition for four more years. The party will eat itself alive.

I’m probably giving PP too much credit, but this could be an attempt at scaring progressive voters back to the NDP. Painting Carney as ‘just like me’ when PP is so disliked by progressives could be a somewhat effective way to split the left wing vote in the next election. Do I think that’s what PP is thinking when saying this? Absolutely not. He doesn’t have a strategic bone in his body.
