Have to give credit to the greens where due, I think they should be kept away from any office that isn’t directly transport or environment, but their transport record was very good last time around, current government is undoing all their hard work.
As a civil engineer myself, I think the report is overall very good and the conclusions are clear. Besides the prioritisation of public transport, I love that EI highlight the need for remote working as an evident solution. My only ‘but’ would be that the walkability solutions could be a bit less Anglosphere (cul de sacs, focus on safety…) and a bit more Continental Europe (focus on connectivity, density and mixed use neighbourhoods). However, it’s nice, data-focused and precise. Reading it, I wish there were more of us in decision making positions…
The de prioritisation of several public transport projects and pushing them out by years (a bunch of the dart+ projects for example) highlights why you need committed public transport advocates in government.
The Green Party delivered a lot for public transport over the past government and then got the traditional smallest party in coalition punishment beating from the electorate. The same electorate that is now shocked Pikachu at cuts to public transport investment.
I would like to know which politicians are responsible for changing the funding priorities. They should be strung up for it.
Nobody wants to drive the buses
Dublin policies for national issues! Guessing these lads never spent 2-3 hours driving the 70km between the next 2 biggest cities (Cork to limerick). Or a few hours a day stuck in Galway traffic. They’ve already agreed to spend every cent we have for decades on the metro, so how about some crumbs for the rest of us! Looking after their members consultancy fees with this article more like!
