There is only one thing each mass shooting has in common:
Access to guns.

Ya no need to focus on the ideology that drove a father and son to shoot up a specific get group of people

Tougher gun laws? The shooters were using a basic bolt action. I guess it’s to a zero gun policy.

Americans are experts on this and we have determined that the only thing you can do about it is nothing.

Honestly, this is more of a immigration/assimilation issue than a gun issue.

I am sad to see no focus on tackling ideology that caused this incident. Reddit cheering about even more strict gun laws but ideologies like this they will commit hate crimes with knifes, explosives or whatever they can get their hands on. How about not letting extremist ideology immigrate to the West? That seems to be too much for our politicians, lets focus on something else

Let’s imagine that these guys had no guns. They could have easily plowed a truck into a crowd or thrown Molotov cocktails, or gone on a stabbing spree, or made some explosives from household chemicals.
Let’s face it the problem Australia (among others) has is not with guns, it’s with allowing extremism to spread unchecked. Remember their anti Israel demonstrations immediately after october 7th but before Israel even responded? Remember their chanting of „gas the Jews“? These are those chickens coming to roost.

That is definitely not where the focus should be if you want to prevent more of this.

Since literally every comment here is making this about America, could somebody please explain to me honestly how you’d remove 300-400 million guns from the U.S.?
Do you trust the Trump administration to send federal agents or the national guard door to door to do that? Do we want the Trump admin to control who gets firearms in the U.S.? Do we think they’d equally confiscate guns from the left vs right?
How can people be 100% convinced fascists are taking control of the country but *also* that only those fascists should be armed? That’s how you get guns banned in blue cities only or some shit
Every-time you push for gun control you are asking a Republican Supreme Court, a Republican President, and a Republican Congress to control guns. Like how they just proposed banning trans people from owning them.
I’m not trying to be inflammatory, but it literally doesn’t make sense to me. This isn’t Australia, we have SO many firearms here, you cannot just “ban them.” There’s literally hundreds of millions of them.

I think it is important to note that this is the first shooting of this type in 29 years.

Australia has some of the strictest gun laws in the world. I’m not sure that’s what failed here.

Is it not so that Australia already has insanely strict gun laws? How the hell did these fucks get weapons?

The mental gymnastics is insane, why are you afraid to call a spade a spade, how many times do Radical Islamists have to perform mass casualty events?

The gun control didn’t work.
You have a people-based problem, not a gun-based problem.
Solve the hate.
Addressing the methods is just bandages on a festering wound. Prosecute people who call for violence and stop this before it happens again. Violent people will always find a way to harm others.

I don’t know anything about Australian gun law but I was under the impression that they were already extremely restrictive.

Okay, sure. No doubt there are some more strings to pull regarding our gun control laws- but the cause behind this is religious extremism/radicalisation. We need to find a way to tackle that aswell.

Yeah cus it’s not like they didn’t already have some of the strictest gun laws in the world… let’s just double down on what didn’t work rather than looking to true root causes… violent people will always find a way.

The guns were not bought legally. Laws about guns don’t solve these problems.

This guy was known to ASIO our intelligence agency who monitors terror threats.
He was a close associate with an ISIS cell, most of who were arrested.
He should never have been allowed to have or retain a gun licence, let alone accumulate 6 high powered guns.
We already have strict gun laws, but this is a clear area that needs to be urgently overhauled.

Better be tough. Over 4 million guns again. Any new laws should at least cut that number in half. No way we should have that many guns in a country with a population of about 27 million people, 80% of who live in urban centres.

if that guy acquired the guns legally that is a valid course of action. otherwise its dumb as shit
