  1. What is up with every leader wanting martial law lately? Or is it just TrUmP and Yoon?

A bizarre series of events. Trying to impose martial law, with neither the express backing of the military, the police or even the entirety of his own party. Thankfully, for the sake of democracy, it was an amateurish effort.

  3. Tried to start conflict with North Korea to give himself grounds for declaring martial law but they didn’t retaliate. What soldier would want to follow Yoon knowing he might try to get them killed so he can have his emergency justification?

    >“Yoon Suk Yeol … tried to declare martial law by inciting military provocations by North Korea, but that plan failed,” Cho said. “Yoon declared emergency martial law to monopolize and maintain power by taking control of the legislative and judiciary branches and eliminating his political opponents.”

The lead investigator said North Korea didn’t retaliate, likely because it was preoccupied with its support of Russia’s war against Ukraine, and so Yoon lacked legal grounds to impose military rule, but went ahead anyway to swiftly “eradicate anti-state forces.”

South Korea’s parliament, the National Assembly, acted in an exemplary way to remove Yoon. That’s how a legislative body is supposed to act in a democracy.

  5. Yoon is a nut, he [„allegedly“ consulted a shaman and had sessions with an „anal acupuncture specialist.“](https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20220118003300315)

Now it’s coming out that the Unification Church (the Moonies) donated money to both his party and the opposition party. Funny how religious extremism is always fucking up democracy and the rule of law around the world.

  6. I tought this was a repost

Turns out it’s a follow up of what happened in 2024

  7. I read this as Marital Law and thought he was plotting to marry his opponents… I need more sleep
