Is it the Provisional Irate Residents Association, or the Continuity Irate Residents Association that are at it again?
It’s kind of funny, but these objectors are far more effective at shutting down billions worth of infrastructure to a point where it wouldn’t be practical to bomb the same monetary equivalent of existing infrastructure. The RA should have just infiltrated British residents associations all along.
I live nearby, and basically the entire contention here by the objectors boils down to, „There are too many people living here already“.
The main group taking this objection is made up of retirees with little else to fill their day, who feel that the roads and public transport in the area cannot accomodate any more houses being built.
And they’re right. But instead of putting all this pressure on politicians to put on more busses, add WFH incentives and make sustainable transport a better option, they instead prefer to spend their days whinging on Facebook about traffic, about roadworks for „empty cycle lanes“, about missing busses, and then spend their actual time and money trying to block housing developments.
There is an absolute shitton of space in the area. We can absolutely accommodate a lot more places being built, and it will be a boon for the area, especially if it brings with it things like extra restaurants and shops. Transport is a problem, but that’s fixable. Fighting against any and all development is not the solution.

Except that the highlighted area has direct access to the 74 and the S8; and is on the corner of the current 15B/future 85?
This saga is starting to feel a little bit like the Dartmouth Square of the south of Dublin
They sound a bit like the bad guys from Hot Fuzz. Keep the town “tidy” by preventing any undesirables from moving in.
These people are the reason it’s so expensive to build housing in Ireland, and why young people are being forced to live at home or move home until they are 30-40 (if lucky)

People in Dublin complaining about housing in Dublin citys affect on public transport, need to realise that the alterntive is building houses outside the city and forcing people to drive in.
Tidy towns would rather the site sit derelict than have new people living in the area.
I walked past this site this morning and live about 5mins from here. There is so much potential green space for development in this area – and it always drags on for an eternity due to these fuckers
This is bonkers that it’s blocked by a group of retiree nimbys. To make matters worse – while they block this redevelopment the site is being used by local teenagers as a knacker drinking spot (massive fire recently in the news ) and generally an eyesore.
In terms of transport – it’s well served and the road it’s in is sleepy (busy at 9am with school runs that’s it)
When shit like this comes up it should be a majority vote on a project – which would force the developers to appease 51% of locals with some running track / open spaces / shops etc (this place has this ) and also allow projects to go ahead.

Ballyboden is inside the M50. It’s hardly „the foothills“ of the Dublin Mountains. It’s an urban area on flat land, not Glencullen.
