I mean, the end of the article explicitly says why purchases by Chinese appear so few:
“Savvy Chinese businessmen have been sending money overseas for a long time, and they often have bases in Japan. For example, if they purchase under the name of a company established with a Japanese representative, there’s no way to find out who the real buyer is,“ he said. It seems there are realities that aren’t revealed by government investigations alone.”
Wow a whole 192 apartments… drop in a bucket.
These numbers are massive, nearly 300 people total! Better ban purchases by foreigners soon or the other 30 million residents of Tokyo will be screwed.
As a Taiwanaese, I would not deny many Taiwanese dream of liviing in Japan.
The real thing here is shell companies. I know numerous Chinese and Singaporeans that own multiple properties across Japan. But they’re all owned by Japanese KK or gks etc and they have Japanese MDs. So on paper, Japanese, but money is exfilled out of country.
Talking about stretching. How many people live in Tokyo, vs how many they’re writing about here?
