Smart, this annihilates any attempts by Putin (Trump, whatever..) to say he’s ignoring the Ukrainian people.
Instead, and unlike Putin (Trump, whatever), he’s trying to make all his people’s voices heard.

„They see that Ukrainian troops are leaving the territory of Donetsk Oblast, and the compromise seems to be that Russian troops will not enter this territory,“ – Call the area West Palestine and let the gazans have it with Tony Blair sworn in as president. then sit back with some popcorn!

ah yes, because the defender has to leave their own area undefended, hoping the lying invader that never upholds agreements, will not take advantage of that.
what idiocy..

Ukranians want the shit show to be over so… this is a kosher surrender, as I see it.
It’s okay tho… it’s better to have half a country than no country at all.
Russia wanted it all.
If they vote no they can continue fighting.
Either way it looks like Russia will push in SOME direction regardless.

Well most of Ukraine wants the war to end.. so land will be conceded and Russia will “win”.
Russia will rebuild and attack again.
Security guarantees will be meaningless in a few years and even if Russia violates a peace treaty, NATO won’t send troops to attack Russia..

AS much as I wish Ukraine could drive the Russians out I never thought it was a possibility. I said two years ago The war would have to end with Ukraine giving up claims to land Russia already stands on. What ukraine’s been holding out for is some sort of security guarantee that will keep Russia from coming back for more. Not just an agreement but something concrete. With USA no longer interested it falls to Europe to arm Ukraine to the teeth. If giving up a few miles of territory means Russia drops its demands to limit Ukraine’s armies then this might be the compromise needed. Its a bloody awful compromise but with Trump in the White House there’s nothing better coming.

>Zelensky said Washington has floated a „compromise vision“ under which Ukrainian troops would leave Donetsk Oblast and Russian forces would refrain from entering.
Because Russia can totally be trusted to uphold their end of an agreement, right?
Maybe the troops can leave but pile their equipment nearby in Ukranian territory and unaffiliated Ukrainian volunteers can just grab them and go take back their homes?

this is a mistake. Ukraine should just say bugger off on any claim. You got to maintain your self respect. That’s what Russia does they claw away at that if you show sign of weakness they’ll manipulate any audience around. And then you have another pile of mess to deal with if you take their bait.
Russia’s on its back foot I don’t understand all of this concession stuff.
