For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This phenomenon occurs in social movements and politics as well.

As awful and as reprehensible as these movements are, I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone who has paid attention to years of messaging and posturing about being a post-national state.

If we don’t quickly get a handle on things like immigration and even cultural integration/social cohesion I fear it’s going to get a lot worse. We’re seeing in realtime how things are playing out south of the border when Americans feel they’ve lost a grip on things like illegal immigration.

Failures to address these issues and points of friction create fertile grounds for movements like white nationalism to proliferate. I’m obviously not justifying or rationalizing it, but a broader context is important.

It’s gaining ground across the western world, turns out bringing in millions of people who don’t respect the countries culture and don’t want to assimilate is going to turn the population against them. Seeing it in the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, etc

[Europe](https://moderndiplomacy.eu/2025/06/07/the-right-on-the-rise-nationalism-and-the-changing-face-of-europe/) is probably further ahead on this actually with parties like afd and le pen gaining major traction, same with reform in the UK. Canada is seeing signs but we aren’t at that point yet where a party like the PPC is becoming a major player

I wonder how much of this is genuine and how much of it is just grift?

Like, the same people being targeted by these white nationalists are also being targeted by scammers of all kinds, because the online far right are notoriously bad for shouting to the rooftops about how gullible and willing to be scammed they are.

I don’t doubt that a lot of the folks who get into this stuff are deeply racist and terrible people, but I’d be curious to know how much of this is just grifters telling racists what they want hear in order to vacuum out their wallets.

This may very well be true but would it kill the walrus to include some supporting evidence? The article contains no stats or facts to justify the headline.

We should learn from our American neighbours and just skip past the part where we try appealing to the good nature of these people.

      They do not have one.

Can I start a triple K scam on these apparently nationalist folks? Like offer them some feeding piece stupid info in exchange for joining online Facebook group or an app for discussion? You guys think that will make me a millionaire? Planning to keep registration fees very minimal like 10cad…

Sadly this is hardly shocking news.. With the last decade of visa mills for post secondary and TFW I’m surprised its not worse.

Of course it is, because it is the zeitgeist of our times. Thanks solely and entirely to tech moguls sitting in the United States who are white nationalists themselves, determined to impose their odious worldviews through their corrosive social media platforms and algorithms.

There is absolutely nothing organic in this explosion of online hatred against anyone not white, against women, and against anyone who doesn’t conform to an imaginary standard of life that never existed in practice.

Canadians aren’t hateful people as a rule – they are being driven to it by utterly fact-free nonsense, by motivated actors who want to use them as tools for their own agendas.

An example to illustrate this. The other day someone here was ranting about how ethnic minorities were apparently driving dangerously and making the roads around Ontario unsafe. When the data shows that we have far fewer fatalities on the road today, than we did in the far less diverse 1990s, when we had a much smaller population. It’s utterly fact-free slop, driven by an agenda that does not allow for facts or nuance.

To fight it requires acknowledging a few simple facts.

      * White nationalists are national security threats;
      * they are funded, aided and abetted by foreign powers seeking to influence us from abroad; and
      * protecting our sovereignty requires protecting ourselves from both of the above, *while also addressing legitimate concerns about immigration and diversity*.

Wealthy elite game the system to bring in massive numbers of immigrants to provide cheap labour.

Wealthy elite fund white nationalist movements and right wing political players to worsen the resulting divisions and resentment.

This shifts the Overton window even further to the right, resulting in tax cuts, relaxed business rules, and ongoing erosion of worker rights.

Inequality continues to rise. Desperate people = more cheap labour, even less rights.

      Am I missing anything?
