But Trump rewards people who suck up to him, so some people think it’s worth it to compromise their values, ethics, honor and dignity to get special treatment.

Toyota is the one of the largest manufacturers of IC engines in the world. They have steadfastly pushed against electric cars and alternatives in Japan for years as it will affect their massive infrastructure.
Toyoda is a businessman and does whatever the business needs to thrive. He couldn’t give a single fuck about Trump or the climate. It’s all just business for him.
None of the Japanese Industrial Giants got where they are today by being nice and not dealing with questionable governments or politicians
Also like, Japanese Automotives also got an insane amount of Joint Ventures with China, who hasn‘t had free votes since … ever?
Toyota has always funded climate change denying politicians in the US and has long lobbied world governments to slow down the adoption of EVs.
Toyota is rotten from the head and has been since Akio took charge in 2009.
There is nothing new here in policy or action. He just feels more comfortable being ‚out‘ now.
