>Ukraine has submitted proposals to the US for surrendering territory, according to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
>The US peace proposals, modified by Ukraine, containing „territorial concessions that Ukraine could accept,“ have been finalized, Merz said Thursday during a press conference with NATO chief Mark Rutte. Russia wants Ukraine to definitively and officially relinquish Crimea and the four oblasts (Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia) that Russian forces have illegally annexed. This represents large parts of eastern and southern Ukraine, including the fiercely contested Donbas region.
>However, Ukraine appears unwilling to relinquish the territories, despite US pressure to do so. Kyiv has so far insisted on the demand for the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from all occupied territories, including Crimea, and the full restoration of the internationally recognized 1991 borders.
>Earlier this week, Zelenskyy indicated that ceding land is impossible, both legally and morally. Now his government appears willing to make concessions after all. It could be a breakthrough in the so-far-sluggish peace negotiations. Russia Proposes Security Guarantees
>While Ukraine has proposed surrendering territory, Russia has submitted proposals for security guarantees to the United States, according to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He stated that future peace agreements must include security guarantees for all parties involved. Lavrov emphasized that discussing security guarantees cannot be limited to Ukraine. He reiterated that Russia finds NATO membership unacceptable for Ukraine and that Russia wants protection for Russian speakers in Ukraine.
>Lavrov also said that the recent visit of US envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow has contributed to mutual understanding between Russia and the US. He stated that there are no longer any misunderstandings or miscommunications.
>Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, held hours-long talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week. The two play a key role in Trump’s efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.

To make this fair, I’ll suggest giving Texas back to Mexico and maybe even throw in Florida too

May want to give Kursk and Belgorod to Russia. Anything else is unwanted appeasement. Don’t fall for Putin or Trump’s demands.

If you add the dots between Zel’s comments yesterday about having no power to take back Crimea. And then this today…
Maybe he’s agreed to give them Crimea?

In other words, Ukraine will surrender the tiny part of Kursk it still controls.

The way I first read this headline, I thought it was some high-quality trolling of Trump by Zelenskyy. Proposal for the U.S. to give up some territory. Quite disappointed when I clicked through to the article

I read nothing in the article about Ukraine giving up territory. Only that they could „abandon“ territory, which possibly is a wrong translation of my browser, since I’m not dutch.
Could mean a Korea-Style Armistice, a DMZ alongside the current frontline, no territory legally given up and Ukraine upholds their claims to it.

Nothing really new. This is a proposal in the form of „we could give up territories, but first let’s discuss these items Russians will never accept“. It is to keep Trump busy hoping for the Nobel peace prize instead of actively helping Russia militarily.
