Full article: When I first saw online rumblings that women’s right to vote was being called into question in the US, I assumed the manosphere was having a slow day and that it was an outrageous fringe idea to be laughed off. After all, the 19th Amendment assuring women’s suffrage was ratified in 1920.
However, even the most fiercely anti-feminist forces haven’t openly questioned women having the vote in my lifetime, because no one can remember a time when it wasn’t normal. That particular Overton window was closed and bolted. But recently, someone has been picking the lock.
I host *The Guilty Feminist* podcast and at a live show in London a few years ago, an admittedly uncharacteristic audience member collared me in the theatre lobby and told me very earnestly that she thought women shouldn’t have the vote – because we were “too emotional”. That was my first alarm bell.
With our current government and Supreme Court, I give women 50/50 odds if they’ll be able to vote in 2028. Not that I expect that will be a free and fair election. Trump has already installed electors. Ten years from now, it may only be white land owners who have a vote in this country.

You don’t say.
They’ve also been gradually making it more and more difficult for Black Americans to vote, Florida especially.

Pointing out Republicans „Save Act“ while supposedly going after the made up problem of non-citizens voting in our election, it does have the real consequence of making it harder if not impossible for Married women who have changed thier last name to vote. As their last name will no longer match thier birth certificate, and as many do not have the required documents to prove a name change (marriage certificate doesn’t count)
They already pass this in the House.

IT WAS IN Project2025
Edit: I have sadly read the 900 grueling pages back in 2024 bc im a basement dweller sometimes. but, to be more specific, the Heritage Foundation has been public about rolling back voters rights (some have been scrubbed since the original pdf got leaked; other rollbacks remain on the website; some were further purported in the new P2026 followon. see Union of Concernced Scientists & other impartial groups for a general breakdown of the 2025 version). And the full Project2025 is actually a document of goals from 2024 through to and including 2028 (to touch on the next election year).
to be plain and simple: contesting amendments after the original 10 (meaning amendments 11 on) is encouraged. this is seen by what the Trumo administration has used of P2025, within footnotes of P2025, and by the Heritage Foundation’s numerous other documents. i genuinely encourage people to look up which amendments this includes. im sad that media didnt make more of a stink about this when they had the chance, but we are here now.
when speaking to an informed HFer who routinely cites Christian fundamentals, ive been politely told this is to encourage „household“ voting (where men are head of the household. and a vote from a dissenting wife means it „negates“ the vote of the husband)
tldr: i shouldve typed „this goal is heavily alluded to within, and supported by goals of, P2025“. its good to be exact!

When I posted about this on some women-focused boards in 2024 and had in-person conversations, I was shouted down and downvoted as “fear mongering”.
This truth has been out there, very few people wanted to accept it. Then we elected the very vermin who would make it possible.
I am tired.

The far right and plenty of conservatives in general are pretty open about removing the vote for anyone who don’t own land. This includes removing the rights to own land by women and minorities. Back in the day, lol, when I volunteered to help for functions you would get these racist snobs who believed that those who don’t play a major role shouldn’t be allowed to have a say. Basically saying the poor shouldn’t vote. It’s very disgusting how many believe these kinds of things and it can also be scary. Imagine having a group of people right Infront of you telling you have no right to vote because of class, sex or race. These types need to be kept far away from politics.

The far right has been pushing „voting by household“ (man votes for everyone in the family) for a few years. Another one they’ve pushed is raising the voting age to 25, with 2 exceptions: Police officers and military members get to vote at 18 because „they are most effected by the outcome of elections“. These people are insane

After all, the 19th Amendment assuring women’s suffrage was ratified in 1920.
It certainly wasn’t straightforward for all American women: native American women weren’t even classed as citizens until 1924 and the Jim Crow laws blocked Black women from voting until the 1960s, and [there is still voter suppression to this day.](https://inews.co.uk/opinion/suffragettes-got-us-half-way-marginalised-women-remain-locked-democracy-118614?ico=in-line_link)
However, even the most fiercely anti-feminist forces haven’t openly questioned women having the vote in my lifetime, because no one can remember a time when it wasn’t normal. That particular Overton window was closed and bolted. But recently, someone has been picking the lock.

That was my first alarm bell.
Since then, the manosphere – the online anti-women lobby – has become inflamed in ways I could not have[ imagined and Roe v Wade](https://inews.co.uk/news/roe-vs-wade-what-summary-us-abortion-case-meaning-explained-overturned-supreme-court-1709237?srsltid=AfmBOoplDFiv5XyqwDqPXvikQnVBRvOJ1PofHZ2ecc075aYtqerVdlES&ico=in-line_link), the US Supreme Court ruling ensuring the right to an abortion at a federal level, has been overturned. The times they are a-changing.
In response, I am producing a series of episodes entitled “The Road to Gilead”, referencing[ Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel](https://inews.co.uk/culture/books/real-margaret-atwood-sentimental-blunt-deliciously-naughty-4011809?srsltid=AfmBOoqCrTuAfKLGwmwjaIvCJht9psiF9xn-zHcv2KmdG7RXH7CCFh-c&ico=in-line_link) (and hit TV adaptation) *The Handmaid’s Tale*. Gilead is a fictitious version of the United States where men are in charge and women are subjugated as obedient wives, enslaved baby-factories, sex workers and indentured servants. It sounds horrifying, but it seems more possible this year than last and far more plausible than it did 10 years ago.
With our current government and Supreme Court, I give women 50/50 odds if they’ll be able to vote in 2028. Not that I expect that will be a free and fair election. Trump has already installed electors. Ten years from now, it may only be white land owners who have a vote in this country.
