      I believe that during a Trump presidency, Germany should maintain a degree of distance from the United States.

      The next U.S. president will likely pursue a more balanced foreign policy. However, to avoid a repeat of the current situation in the future, Germany (and the EU) must strive to become stronger and more independent.

      A partnership is not vassalage.

      Merz is bought and paid for by BlackRock. I don’t think anyone is naive enough to believe that he governs in the interest of common people.

      I am a big fan of following a rational strategy instead of emotionally burning bridges, but that doesn’t mean running up to Donnie and literally begging for his approval.

      Keeping a positive public image towards the US is a valid strategy imo, I just hope his attitude towards the US is different behind closed doors.

      I think he is right though, it would be silly to shut the door on the US when it’s policy or at least the affectiveness of the administration could change dramatically in the next year and it is better to have allies than not. With that being said, Europe should still be striving to be more self reliant on defence, so that we are not at the whims of American extremism.

      Ah, what could go wrong? As trump and his coterie actively reshapes America into the soviet union for racism, and announcing out loud their intention of subverting European politics. Why do Europeans hate sovereignity and themselves?
