I’ll say something similar of what I did elsewhere.

I want the NDP to be a socialist alternative to Liberals/Conservatives.

Or maybe a more left leaning version of the collection of Democratic Socialists, Trade Unionists, Social Democrats, Orange Liberals, and activists that make up the party grassroots.

I want Economic Democracy to be a big central feature of the party at both federal and provincial levels.

I want more radical labour policy (Although this is a provincial domain thing).

That all being said I don’t think Engler was ever „That guy“ for the party.

Just my take and I’ll leave it at that.

    2. Unpopular opinion but I do like him, my first exposure to him was his confrontational videos against politicians (even against Jagmeet Singh) on social media, that direct confrontation/disruption is sometimes needed and I’ve done that as a younger activist. But you can’t have that kind of person also be a leader of a federal party and expected to form political relationships and recruit and negotiate. That being said, he was never going to be selected as a candidate, much less leadership nominee, so I think it’s kinda shady he was doing all this fundraising but ultimately his donors should’ve also known he was too extreme to be selected or win so it’s on them.

This is personally all I need to read:

„In its reasons for rejecting him, the NDP’s Leadership Vote Committee alleged Mr. Engler had made “comments consistent with antisemitic rhetoric.”

The NDP has a history of rejecting pro palestine candidates and it looks like they are continuing down this road despite overwhelming public support for the Palestinian people.
