      So a US serviceman is being dangled as bait, with the hope that the Venezuelans defend their own airspace and furnish a causus belli, do I have that correct?

      If Venezuela were to defend itself and fire upon US Aircraft or Navy vessels, would Trump declare this an attack on the United States, therefore exercise NATO’s mutual defense clause Article 5?    

      IMO, this would end the NATO alliance as I cannot see the USA pulling in other NATO country into a war that USA started

      It sounds like the administration wants Maduro to leave voluntarily and this show of force is designed to put pressure on him. I doubt he will go quietly. I also doubt that Trump, already deeply unpopular, would risk the lives of US servicemen and women for this adventure. And I think this will be Maduro’s calculation as well.

      „US Invades Venezuelan Airspace to Try to Provoke an Unjustified War“ might be a more accurate headline.
