I mean I think the title captures a kind of primal distrust that now exists.
Relations with the U.S. has always had fluctuations but more than ever they are now viewed as an opposing/adversarial/enemy force.
I am sure the relationship will improve if Trump and his cronies and those associated with that „way of being“ are out of power but I am not sure it will ever return to what it was before or not for quite some time.
This period will stay in the public consciousness like a scar.

Prove it. Publicly label the members of the trump administration persona non grata. This bars them from ever living here, ever being diplomats on our soil, and usually, even from entry. It conveys exactly how unforgivable threats to our national security are.

Trust takes forever to build, but it can be broken in an instant.
It has been broken.
The Americans aren’t interested in even starting to rebuild it.

People have short memories and don’t learn. Same with nation states. I don’t buy this for a minute. Once the administration changes, everyone will be lined up as though sanity has instantly returned.

We can’t trust them anymore and it isn’t just anger or that we mistakenly believe that all Americans agree with the current administration.
The problem is that, even if a Democrat wins the next two US elections, given the issues in the US, I question how much political capital they would be willing to spend trying to make things right. Even if they did, and this is the real concern, guys like Rubio and Vance are young and will be running for President when that Democrat’s second term is up and Americans are likely sick of Democrats.
So even if a President Newsom came around showering Canada with love, incredible trade deals and ironclad support for our sovereignty, as appealing as that is, it would likely all vanish four to eight years down the road.
Now that American voters have shown that the 2016 election wasn’t a fluke of the Electoral College, the rest of the world needs to permanently pivot away from the US as much and as quickly as possible.

It is pretty amazing that Americans are allowing their leader to be controlled by Russian in such an obvious and shameful way.

Is there any way to corroborate that Matt Gurney actually said that? Because I have a hard time believing he had the stones, and that every other guest essentially applauded him for it.
It’s certainly not the Matt Gurney I know and have been constantly disappointed by. If it he really did say that, he should summon some of that energy to give Canada’s deplorables the write ups they deserve.
