More people will already know his work than they realise. He captured a certain side of Britain that was simultaneously cruel, accurate, comedic, disdainful and compelling.

I also think though that he could captured a side Britain that could be cheap, gaudy, tacky and a whole lot of fun. I went on holiday to the seaside every year as a kid around the same time he was taking his New Brighton photos, they absolutely capture early 80s summer holidays for me.
I know he can be a bit divisive and was looked down upon for a good while, but I think he really had an eye for the slightly ridiculous and showed how we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously.

BBC Four had a Martin Parr night just a couple of months ago where they showed a couple of documentaries, one about Martin Parr (which I notice is still on BBC Iplayer), the other was a documentary Martin Parr directed called Think of England, which I loved, really captured England in the late 90s and felt really nostalgic. Sadly it’s no longer on Iplayer, but it’s worth seeking out.
