Finally, someone is standing up for immigrant rights! It’s about time people know they don’t have to live in fear. 🙌“

Maybe it’s where I’m from, but rule #1 is you don’t talk to the police unless you’ve initiated that encounter. „Am I being detained or am I free to go?!“ Repeat that question until answered. If you’re being detained, shut up. If taken into custody, ask for an attorney and shut up. Good for the mayor in reminding people of their rights!

Crazy that reminding people of their actual rights is treated like some radical move. This is literally how the system is supposed to work.

When one side sides with „The Law“ , and the ruling party does not, is not the out come predetermined?

    6. The United States media machine has evolved from manufacturing consent to manufacturing fascism.

This fucking headline is offensive to the constitution itself.

      Fuck these people.

      > If you’re being detained, you may always ask, ‘Am I free to go?’ repeatedly until they answer you,” said Mamdani

The answer to this will be, „Not until we figure out who you are“. Is Mamdani even a lawyer?

      Keep fighting, comrade! Inspire others!

You have more support than you know – those who now see revolution as an ethical imperative

Without a warrant, in the USA you always have the right to tell the police no.

I’m glad he’s trying to inform people of their rights but he should make sure to speak to a lawyer next time.

He’s incorrect that migrants don’t have to speak to immigration officers. By law if you are a documented immigrant you have to present your papers/green card when requested. If you refuse to or lie that’s a deportable offense. Pretty sure just about every immigrant knows this.

[immigrant rights](https://share.google/5QgK3TDIjqskqEVDJ) print these cards if you can. Laminate them. Hand them out.

They want people to feel like they don’t have rights.

You have the right to not open the door.

You have the right to not answer questions.

You have the right to not sign anything.

      >“Officer, am I being detained, or am I free to leave?“

All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution.
