I had a similar argument with a Trump friendly friend of mine. The core problem is that most European countries are kind of weak on their own; together in the EU they are much stronger and able to exert more influence. However they haven’t seriously consolidated this power, there’s a clear understanding that, without the EU, the continent will be pulled apart by Russia China and America, but that’s already been happening as is. The EU needs to either become more powerful over its member states and become a Federation if it wants to survive.
Morons like Musk would prefer a divided EU as it is easier to control, a large EU can be an effective regulator and basically force American tech companies to do things. Without them in the way nothing else stands in their way.
